Everything You Need to Know About Paper Exporters in India


The paper industry is a major part of the Indian economy. The country’s exports of paper and paperboard exceeded 10,000 crores in 2016, making it the fifth-largest exporter in the world. India’s paper sector employs about 1.5 million people, and the government has been working to make the sector more competitive and productive. Here’s what you need to know about India’s paper exporters.

Paper exports from India have seen a steady increase over the past few years. According to data from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, paper exports from India increased from Rs. 11,109 crores in FY 2016–17 to Rs. 12,346 crores in FY 2017–18. This increase can be attributed to the growing demand for Indian paper products globally.

Paper exporters in India cater to a wide range of global markets, including the United States, Europe, Japan, and China. The largest paper exporter in India is JK Paper Limited, which exported Rs. 4,664 crores worth of paper products in FY 2017–18. Other leading exporters include Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Papers Limited (Rs. 1,931 crores), Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited (Rs. 1,370 crores), and Ballarpur industries ltd (Rs. 1,189 crores).

The majority of Indian paper exports are brown Kraft paper and writing & printing paper. These two product categories accounted for Rs. 7,915 crore and Rs. 2,281 crores worth of exports respectively in FY 2017–18. Other popular export items include tissue paper (Rs. 487 crore), packaging board (Rs. 359 crore), and newsprint (Rs. 338 crore).

With a growing global demand for paper products, Indian paper exports are likely to continue to rise in the coming years.
